Israel–Hamas war

A video is released showing a Palestinian prisoner being used as a human shield during the Israeli operation in the West Bank. The prisoner is handcuffed, blindfolded and kneeling on a street, as an Israeli soldier takes cover behind him, while aiming his rifle. (Al Jazeera)

The UN human rights commissioner urges an investigation into Israel's use of "high-impact explosive weapons" in Gaza, which caused indiscriminate destruction in the enclave and also stated that Israel must "end its use of such weapons". (Reuters)

The UN human rights commissioner says that Israel must take immediate measures to protect Palestinians in the West Bank, saying that Palestinians were "subjected to violence from Israeli forces and settlers, ill treatment, arrests, evictions, intimidation and humiliation" on a daily basis. Six people are killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. Human Rights Watch comments "hospitals must always be protected" and "no area is a free-fire zone", urging world leaders to act "to prevent further mass atrocities".(Al Jazeera)

Battle of Geneina

Between 700 to 1,300 people are killed, over one hundred are injured and around 300 are missing after clashes in Geneina. (Reuters)

Business and economy

Logistics company DP World, which accounts for around 40% of Australia's freight transport, suspends operations at four ports in Brisbane, Fremantle, Melbourne, and Sydney, after a cyberattack was reported, which federal police is investigating. (The Independent)

The United Nations warns that if the war in Gaza continues for a second month, poverty among Palestinians will increase by 34 percent, causing nearly half a million people to experience poverty.
